About Our School
Profile
Thomas Jefferson Elementary School (TJ), built in 1980, proudly serves over 500 students in grades kindergarten through five. Our mascot is Jefferson, the mouse!
TJ provides a challenging and comprehensive educational program to a diverse student population. The students' needs are met through the use of current, research-based teaching methods and strategies and the integration of technology.
Academic Achievement – Student achievement is evaluated through the use of multiple measures. These include student portfolios, performance assessments, criterion-referenced tests, the NJ Student Learning Assessments (NJSLA). Improved student performance on the state assessments continues to be an annual goal.
Participation and Recognition – The staff at TJ encourages participation in a wide-range of activities. Our fifth grade students present the daily, school-wide morning opening exercises. Students may also choose from activities such as Drama and Safety Patrol. Students can also participate in the vocal or instrumental music programs. All students display artwork in the annual school-wide Art Show. Students are recognized for displaying positive character traits (positivity, respect, integrity, determination, and excellence) through our TJ Token program and PRIDE programs.
High Quality Staff – The professional staff at TJ School continually refine and update their teaching skills through participation in professional development programs and graduate course work. Teachers present a Family Math Night, Family Literacy Night, and Literacy Walk, providing enjoyable learning activities for students and their families. They can be seen at events beyond the school, supporting our learners at various Parent Teacher Organization events. Our teachers also work collaboratively to fund a yearly scholarship for a deserving TJ alum!
Parent and Community Involvement – Parent involvement is greatly encouraged through participation in classroom activities. The Parent Teacher Organization (PTO) supports the learners through the Book Fair, Winter Wonderland, Candy Bar Bingo, Ice Cream Social, and so many more! The ongoing support and cooperation of the parents, community members, and the school staff create a nurturing learning environment, which prepares the students to become successful, productive members of society.
